The 400 series first began shipping in 1997. WAAS capability was added in 2006.
There are three GPS models in the Garmin 400 series:

GPS 400 - GPS only
GNC 420 - GPS plus COM Radio
GNS 430 - GPS plus NAV/COM Radios
